Mental Health Services

All the doctors in the practice see patients with mental health problems. If you think you are suffering from low mood, anxiety or any other mental health issue, please consider booking a double appointment, initially with a GP, to discuss it further.

The practice keeps close ties with both the Steps to Wellbeing and the Community Mental Health Team (CMHT). These teams consists of therapists, psychiatrists, psychologists, community psychiatric nurses (CPNs), and occupational therapists amongst others.

In addition there is an Crisis and Home Treatment Response Team  which provides a  7 day per week service to people experiencing an acute mental health crisis. It provides an alternative to acute hospital admission by providing intensive intervention in the community. The service is the gatekeeper to hospital admission.

There are also specialist services which your GP may refer you to directly:  Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service, based at Dorset County Hospital, Perinatal Mental Health Service, Old Age Mental Health Service for patients over 65 years, Eating Disorders, Alcohol and Substance Misuse Service (CADAS) and the Learning Disabilities Team.

If you are suffering with mental health problems and need to see a psychiatric specialist in an emergency out of hours, you can contact the Dorset CMHT Crisis service direct on 01305 361269. If it is within practice hours, please contact the surgery where a Duty Doctor will be available.
